Research activity:

Modelling the effects of global change on dynamics of heterogeneous forests

Process-based models couple water and carbon exchange between the vegetation and the atmosphere. These models are evaluated with measured carbon fluxes between the ecosystem and the atmosphere performed by the eddy-covariance technique. Coupling the mechanistic approach based on ecophysiological rules with the forest production models and with population genetic models is now necessary to improve the predictions of forest dynamics under global change.

In this context, I develop a new physiological dynamics and genetics model (PDG) coupling a process-based model (CASTANEA) simulating carbon and water cycle, a dynamics model (CAPSIS-Transporegé) simulating dispersal and regeneration and a genetics models. This new model is designed to simulate plant community dynamics at landscape scale.

To parameterize the model, it is also necessary to have a better understanding of the functional basis of three processes:

Consequently, we also develop several experiments and collaborations on these four fields of research. I especially work during the last years on tree mortality and tree reproduction.
